If you’re looking for a place to eat in Seattle, why not try an organic Seattle restaurant? When I walked into Portage Bay Café for the first time, after all my friends had raved about it, I honestly didn’t know what would hit me. Instantly I was in love with the atmosphere; very modern, yet casual and cozy at the same time, and the smell of freshly brewed coffee filled the air. Now, would the food measure up? By the end of my meal it was no question.

Choosing a dish proved to be the most difficult part of my visit. They had everything from omelets with goats cheese and fresh veggies to oven-baked French toast to steel-cut oatmeal. So many options, so little time. I especially liked their witty remarks at the end of their menu: “we give a damn about the environment” and “we give a damn about animals.” That’s right; Portage Bay has made a commitment to serving meals made from ingredients from local, organic, and sustainable producers.

When my meal arrived, it was apparent my eyes were bigger than my stomach. I loaded up at the toppings bar where I topped off my French toast with fresh raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, almond slices, and more. Divine; my dish looked like a work of art! The food was delicious and, of coarse, it was great to know that I was consuming the best ingredients possible, ones that were fresh and were free of toxic pesticides and herbicides.

On my way to the parking lot I passed Portage Bay’s Grange, with its clucking chickens, and I thanked the chickens for their delicious eggs.
