A community that isn’t sustainable can’t breed healthy environments. This is a simple fact that Charles Woodyard, CEO of the Chicago Housing Authority, understands well. To make a healthy community, sustainability must be cultivated.
For Woodyard, this means creating mixed-use space that includes both housing and commercial areas–this will provide jobs, increase neighborhoods’ walkability, and give residents a chance to move up in the world–and far beyond poverty.
