NextGen Climate Action, a political group run by billionaire financier Tom Steyer, is purchasing television ads for the governor’s race in Virginia. The group is acting to promote democratic candidate Terry McAuliffe.
While Steyer is specifically concerned about the Republican candidate in the race, his efforts are in hopes of making climate change a larger national political platform. Campaigning in Virginia will mean trying to convince a state with deep ties to coal that going green is the right thing to do.
